I may have mentioned before how much I like wee girlies wearing bloomers, but they’re not necessarily that easy to find, and not always in great colours. I was absolutely thrilled when I found this scarlet corduroy pair from a local, Oxfordshire business. I would consider myself to be a feminist mother, hence the title, and every day I face the following internal struggle: style versus practicality – for myself and, more particularly, for my daughter. Children need to be active (especially mine it would seem). It goes without saying, doesn’t it? From learning to roll and crawl to learning to scoot and ride bicycles children are built to be constantly on the go using every bit of their bodies, and yet so many girl’s clothes – dresses, skirts, tight trousers, ruffles and frills – are not designed to accommodate ease of physical movement.

Moving on, packing up, saying goodbye to the baby crap

The night before I last I packed up all my new baby clothes and things for the last time. The sadness of leaving behind a stage of motherhood is surprisingly strong and I always slightly dread it, but it can still catch me unawares, for all that.  I’m already dreading when I have to pack up the clothes that she’s currently too small for!

I’ve been blessed over the last four years by having some very generous friends with children a little older than my own and now it’s my turn to share the wealth and pass along outgrown items to expectant friends for their babies to wear.
