Making mum friends isn’t so hard – honest

Making mum friends isn’t so hard – honest

This post is a response to  an open letter I saw on Huffpost about making mum friends as a new mum, especially to her opening paragraph (see quotes below) which is just so wrong I was inspired to counter it in the hopes I can reassure even one new mama who feels lonely and out of her depth.

Making friends as a mom is hard. Real hard. Hard like trying to go to the bathroom while holding a screaming newborn, hard. Hard like trying to walk your dog and push the stroller, hard. Hard like trying to eat and breastfeed at the same time, hard. I think you get the picture, it is pretty stinkin’ difficult.

On being a parent – an open letter to my husband

On being a parent – an open letter to my husband

Dear Husband,
I know sometimes it feels more like we’re teammates united against a common enemy. No longer a young couple wholly engrossed in each other, the time that we spend, awake, together is more usually slumped, defeated, one at each end of the sofa. There is no desire to touch each other for more than a fleeting kiss because our skin is still crawling from the over-eager clawing of our offspring. The words we speak are slurred with tiredness and despondency and we repeat faded mantras to each other to try and bolster our spirits for the next round.

6 ways to keep babies and small children cool in hot weather

I don’t know about you, but this heat is already kicking my arse.  It’s bad enough when you’re having to deal with the effects of the heat when you’re more used to the kind of damp mediocrity we call ‘weather’ here in the South East, but when you’re stuck at home all day (and night) with small children who are also adversely affected it can be a new form of hell entirely.

From lack of sleep to the more serious worries about sunburn and heat stroke, looking after small people in hot weather is a stressful business. A stressful business only made worse when, instead of lounging by a pool in a tile-lined mediterranean villa designed for the heat, you’re stuck in an over-insulated 2 bed semi with a pocket handkerchief of a garden and no trees.

A Mark Warner holiday review of the San Lucianu resort, Corsica (part 2)

Turns out a holiday at the Mark Warner San Lucianu resort is full of so many activities and positives it takes over 4,000 words to do it justice. As a realistic blogger I am aware that few readers are prepared to digest that long a blog post in one go, so I split my post into two parts. If you haven’t read the first half yet, you can find it here: A Mark Warner holiday, review of the San Lucianu resort, Corsica (part 1).

Mark Warner holiday review of the San Lucianu resort, Corsica (part 1)

I have a lot to say in my Mark Warner holiday review, so for ease of publication I split it into two parts. Please read the second part here: Mark Warner holiday review of the San Lucianu resort, Corsica (part 2)

“And now we have an award for a young man who introduced himself to everyone as being a bit shy, which I think we all know is not the case, so for [The Boy], the “shyest” kid on resort!”

Friday family round up 16th – 22nd April 2016

Hurray – sunshine at last! The Boy is insisting on wearing shorts to preschool, despite it still not being that warm, I am powering through my laundry basket and we’re having picnic teas at the park thus saving me from having to cook. Lovely stuff.

More important news this week is that The Boy received his offer for a primary school place and we got first choice. Although it was never that much of a question for us, due to being in catchment, it was still a nerve-wracking experience waiting for that email. We wanted him to be in an environment he was familiar with, one with a good outdoor space, local so he’d live near his school friends – I can’t imagine how much upset it must cause a family to not receive an offer for a school that works for your family.
